well I spoke to Audi prestige and popular and they
both said their 16' winter tire package fits
on the 2012 A4... $80 worth of bolts extra.

both said it would fit just fine. I would rather
have 16' than 17', less expensive and better
in snow

No...like I said, I don't think you can get steel rims that will fit an A4, alloy only. For the small price difference not sure why you'd want to put steel rims on an Audi even if you could.

 

I agree,it is confusing..if the audi dealer says ok to their 16" pkg for your a4 go for it, it is as you say, a bit cheaper. I have order my 17" mag & tire pkg, instl'n is next week.
as for 16" steel rims (not mags)????someone else mentioned they won't fit, anyway they would look terrible.

My dealer has the Italian brand Marangoni, they're about $500 cheaper than 4 similar Sized Blizzaks. Anyone have any experience with them?

The reviews look good when you do a google search and I'm sure an Audi dealer won't sell crappy tires. I bought Semperit tires from my Audi dealer for my 2005 A4 back in 2008 and was 100% satisfied, they are German tires made by Contintal and were also alot cheaper that 4 Pirelli's.
Check them out in google.

I have a 2010 A4 s-line with 19" Dunlops and have just installed my winters ordered from the Audi dealer = 225/50/17 Gislaved (nice tire)
The price was $1657 + tax, got an alignment also.
