Anyone running 225/45/17 winter tires instead of 235/45/17?

Tirerack recommends either 235/45/17 or 215/55-16, but nothing in between.

I am running 235/45/17 summers on 17x7.5 (A4 S2.0T/2007) but have an opportunity of getting a great deal on some Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 (225/45/17). What about load index (min = 91?)

Also, there are more choices in 225 sizes for winters

Try emailing/contacting Tirerack directly. I'd guess the 225's would be a tad more stretched than the 235's offering a bit less protection from side hits, but should be fine?

 

I run 225/45/17 on a set of 17" 5 spoke Audi rims. I've run this setup for 3 winters and I've had no problems.

 

Go to http://www.tyretown.com/my_sizecalc.htm and figure out if the size difference isn't too far off of stock. I think the general rule is to not move off more than 3% from your stock size, otherwise the error on your speedo is too much.

 

Sorry, i guess your question had more to do with whether the tire size will fit on the rim. The tire size calculator is awesome nontheless...
