Cracked Rim

Thinking of picking up a set of RS4 replica rims with rubber for a good deal,

But two of the rims have "minor" cracks and need repair.
One has a slow leak, the other still holds air. The other two rims are in good shape.

Am I taking on major risk trusting I can have this fixed?

I have got a quote over the phone of $150 as wheel and the the repair shop specializes in this type of thing

all told I could have the rims and repairs down for $900

But is it common to have this type or repair done or should I walk from the deal?

Re: Cracked Rim

They'll v-out the crack and tig weld it. Then machine the weld down on the side you see. They also rebuild lips from curbing by tig welding, though that isn't structural.

In all honesty, I work in the aircraft industry and a lot of parts are fixed by v-out and welding. If the proper procedure is followed (reputable shop) and the correct filler rod is used, you won't have a problem. The alloy may be a different hardness in that area after and be more or less prone to cracking if it's subject to hard impact there, but that's to be expected.

I'd say go for it if the price is right.
