A4 Winter Tires and Rims Help

Re: A4 Winter Tires and Rims Help
Hi I bought a 2007 A4 3.6 quattro S-Line used and had to deal with a similar issue. Front caliper is huge on Audi, assuming this is no change for 2010. Only one way to find out if non-OEM alloy fits and that is to try them on. No steel wheel will fit. I got mine used on Kijiji but tested them first.
Second issue is that normally you should be able to go down 1 inch on R and add that to the radius. So I have gone from 235 55 17 to 215 65 16 in other words you can go down an inch and probably should for better traction and control in snow with better height. I got that from various sources and verified with Audi, you can do the same. Good luck
Bottom line you should be able to save significant bucks whatever you do.

After much research I bought winter tires 205/55r16 and alloy 16 inch rims.
I thought all audi wheels should fit and found a pair of what I thought were OEM 16 inch alloy rims.
However, they rub the back of the brake calipers when installed. I have an 06/07 audi A4 quattro sedan.
My question is will getting a different 16in rim with a bigger offset going to help them fit better? or is the inside diameter of the rim housing the deciding factor?
Also I talked to several wheel shops and they say the will guarantee a steel wheel fit for the A4.
So is it true no steel rims will work on an Audi A4?

Re: A4 Winter Tires and Rims Help
Thought I would post an update. There is a shop here in Burnside - Autoworld. They were very helpful and set me up with RTX rims and Michelin Xice 2's. Prices on rims were very reasonable. Roues RTX Wheels - Home
I got the 17" Ingolstadt wheels. Went down a size from the stock 18's for better traction.
As someone else mentioned for the B8's the bore has changed from 57.1 to 66.6 so B7 and earlier rims will not fit.
Thanks to everyone here for their help.

Re: A4 Winter Tires and Rims Help
As an offshoot to this - I found a guy selling a set of yr old winter rubber with rims he used for a 2004 S4.
I have a 2007 A4 S-Line with the 18" RS4 rim. I did the research and will be dropping down to 17" rims with 235/45/17 rubber. I know the bolt pattern from '04 to '07 is the same but my concern is the offset.
Would rims from an S4 fit the A4 without caliper or rubbing issues??

Re: A4 Winter Tires and Rims Help
Hi there yngblk
I just came back from the Calgary Glenmore Audi parts department where they were very helpful in determining the specs for wheels that should fit my2008 A4 S Line.
If you give them the VIN of your car they can tell you the rim specs that will fit.
I am currently on 235/45r17 et45 rims, so I am pretty sure the 17 inch rims with 42-45 offset will work with your car. Those are the specs that they list.
Still best to test fit the rims before buying them.
The specs say that a 16 inch rim with an offset of 45 should fit too, but the stock rims I got are off by just about 1/4 inch too tight.
I guess S-line rotors and brake calipers are bigger than on the standard sedan.
Looks like I will have to go with 17 in rims to fit over the brakes.
Too bad too cause I got a great deal on used Audi alloy 16 inch rims.
Anyone need some 16in rims?

Re: A4 Winter Tires and Rims Help
The s-line brakes are the exact saame as the non-s-line ! Not all 16's will fit but if you wan to keep your 16's you could always get spacers. A narrower contact patch will provide noticeably better traction on the slippery stuff (I'm running 215's on mine).

Re: A4 Winter Tires and Rims Help
Just an update on the 16 inch rim woes.
I took a closer look at the rim by test mounting it again over in my friends heated garage. (Thank goodness for warmth!)
Upon careful examination I could see issue was the front pairt of the brake caliper was not clearing the rim spokes.
Original tires are 7.5x17 inches et45
The winter rims I wanted to use are Audi originals from an 94 S4.
7x16 et45
There is significant differences according to some charts that show when you step down to a smaller rim the offset must change as well.
There is sufficient clearance around the rim width so the back of my calipers cleared, but I need about - .5 inches offset to clear the front rim spokes.
That means a reduced offset of at least 25-35mm in my case I believe.
So I figure a 7.5 x16 et30-35 (medium offset)rims would probably help front rim spoke clearance too as it would add to the offset needed.
That is certainly different from the Audi specs.
Regardless I will test fit now before buying other rims. It has been a good lesson not to take anything for granted....
FYI there is a place in Calgary selling audi compatible rims $150
The are dealers for http://www.rtxwheels.com
