Re: 17 Rims & Winter Tires
Hi Guys
I have a question. My tires are 15 ". Should I stick with 15" for winter tires/rims?..or should I get 17 " Does the size affect performance or safety in the winter? Thanks! |
Re: 17 Rims & Winter Tires
Just stick with the 15's....17's would make a small performance improvement on dry roads but not for winter.

Re: 17 Rims & Winter Tires
I went with Tirerack Alloys and Continental Extreme Winter Contacts 2 months ago. 16" rims and 215/55/16 tires. With shipping/taxes it came to about $1250. Delivery was quick. If you order now you should have them early next week.
The rims came with 20 new nuts as well so I now have 2 full sets for the vehicle. |

If anyone wants to share their insights of where to get some rims and new(er) winter tires (foreign brand) in Calgary I'd be appreciate it. My 18" summer performance will have to retire soon for the Winter months to come. The price at Glenmore Audi is pretty hefty ~$2500 (tires & rims) so am looking for alternatives :thumb:
Thanks. 17 inch rims which I thought is a great deal compared to Audi originals @ $280 each. URBAN EXPRESSIONS WHEEL&TIRE BAY #6,1303-44TH AVE. NE CALGARY (ALBERTA) 403 769.1771 |

Re: 17 Rims & Winter Tires
FYI Two weeks ago I purchased 4 - 17" winters + CECO rims (17 x 7.5 for our 2010 A4 from Volco Tire in Vancouver which is a sister co. to 1010 tire. After reviewing their stock onnline I followed up by a phone discussion it appears they only offer ONE wheel (5 x 112 c/w 40mm offset) that will fit this model. So we got a package of these with Pirelli Sottozeros for $1709 I bleev. Tried them out in 3-4" of snow a couple of days later...and the traction was excellent AFAIAC, both acceleration and braking. The wheel model is identified as M104 (pic does not show CECO name but the Volco guy (Ricky I think) said that co has been around fror a while and has a good track record.
Wheels look fine on the car. My only concern is the spoke spacing - you can see that each spoke is in fact a double spoke separated by less than 1/2" so it's tough to get a finger in between to clean...but with a little perseverance one can twist up a rag that does the trick. Whether these will stand the test of salty conditions...we shall see. I will wash frequently (as I did today before taking these pix...if i can figure out how to load them). For you guys in Calgary, 1010 will apparently ship cheaply and occasioanlly offers free shipping. |

Sorry...the CECO M104 wheel is obviously a TRIPLE member on each "spoke," not a double as I said earlier.http://cecodist.com.lilac.arvixe.com...M104_thumb.jpg:cheers:
