EDMONTON:where is the action?
I am relocating to Edmonton with my "baby" and both her and I feel like a fish out of water!
She in particular needs a good mechanic to look after her and I promised her that I will never take her to a "stealership" when she needs attention! How about parts? Any car parts store who carries inventory for AUDI parts? I have a VAG/COM complete set-up with Bentley for B6 and I am self suffcient to a point... Any contacts will be appreciated! |
Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
If and when your "baby" requires attention, I recommend taking her to Karmac. They're in the west-end of the city. I've been taking my 2003 A4 to them for the past year and they've been good to me. I haven't come across a place that sells parts, other than Southgate Audi. There is also another place called Westside which isn't too far away from Karmac. They're on 10010 - 168 Street. I think they sell parts, but mainly for VW. But definitely check out Karmac.

What kind of work did you have done to your Audi? How are their prices?

just the wheel bearing and labour alone was about $200 cheaper than through audi |
Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
I've heard that Autobahn is quite good as well. I'm hoping to get mine chipped there in the near future.

Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
I recommend Autobahn Performance very highly, been taking my VW there for over two years and now I just purchased an A4 from the dealer and they said it was all good, within two minuites of Mark at Autobahn driving it he said the gearbox was shot, so he basically aided me in getting a brand new box through the dealer. He treats all his customer cars as if they were is own, and he loves his VW and Audi's

Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
Does Autobahn sell parts for Audis? I'm looking for a cabin air filter and fuel filter for the near future.
|
Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
They sure do, if they dont have it in stock, they can get it quite fast. I just ordered a cabin filter myself.
|
Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
I just got off the phone with Autobahn, and they have all the parts I'm looking for: cabin air filter, fuel filter, and wiper blades. I'll be stopping by friday morning to pick up. The prices were better than I expected. It'll be nice to replace the fuel filter. There is a good DIY writeup on it on the Audizine. I want to take advantage of the good weather to do it.

Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
You should check out Audizine from time to time. The B6 A4 thread is hugely entertaining and the DIY section is good too. Have fun. DIY: B6 A4 - Fuel Filter Replacement - Audizine

Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
I just got in from completing the fuel filter swap. It was pretty easy. Just follow the instructions in the thread and you'll be ok. Let me know how the swap goes for you.

Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
I FOUND THE ACTION IN EDMONTON!!!!
At my house!!! My car got broken into it: NICE CITY! I live in Glenora... on Sunday morning! Some idiots pryed the window out with a screwdriver, damaged the door frame, scratched the heck out of everything, smashed the window, and stole a GPS craddle and its cable! They missed the nearly $100 in twonies in the ashtray!!! I am sure they are still scratching their heads trying to figure out why the door locks would not unlock! Called the cops... might as well have called the Space Cadet Academy... I had to drive the car as it was to them... all the patrol cars were in the parking-lot... only two officers in the West main station... To make me love the city even more, the (only) dealer (Southgate) wants to book me for an estimate in 2 weeks... BOOKINGS FOR ESTIMATES?! The repairs would be done in September or October... What kind of a backwards place is this?! But I had good news: FixAUTO can start the repairs at the end of August or early in September... Makes me wish I am anywhere else other than in Edmonton!!! Therefore I am buying a window, install it myself and then drive the car to a reputable shop in Toronto and get the rest of the damage fixed! A bit peeved... |
Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
Very peeved....

Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
I'm so sorry to hear that. In Glenora of all places! I tell ya, some peoples' kids. Just pull the door handles twice. Nice feature. Do you have pics.
About Southgate; they're not the best, but since they're the only Audi dealer in the city, they can corner the market as they like. That's why I go to the independents for parts and service. Or I'll do it myself. Where is FixAuto? I hope it all works out. |

Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
Sorry 'bout that 25orsix24,E-town is ok.Hope that the rest of your experiences here are positive ones!
As for reliable shops,I've always dealt with westside auto. The family is great, fair and they've been workin on vw's/audis for ever.Theyre behind the MacDonalds on stoney plain road and about 168 street.Ive never had an issue and 1 time after a misdiagnosed CEL(replaced MASair, ignition packs)we found that the real prob was a broken vac line! They took out the mas,and coils and refunded my money! The vac line was replaced no charge. |
Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
Howndog,
Thanks for the sympathy! Ma' Babby she is in Pickering (Ontario, a suburb of Toronto) getting damage fixed, lifted and a 3M invisible bra installed... she'll be too pretty when I get her back here in 'mid October! I tried Autobahn Performance so far: an OK experience! Maciek, the guy I met ther, is nice to deal with... prices are OK: not fabulous, though! I also dealt with Southgate Audi: other than a waiting list to estimate and months before they can do the work, they are decent in ordering and speed of delivery of parts. |
Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
Can't speak to any of the shops identified so far, but I would only trust mine to August at Continental Auto. Southside, 97 St and 60 Ave.
He only services VW and Audi, very particular. |
Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
I like west Side auto, they are great, so is autobauhn is wicked too and I work at southgate Audi and they are good here too tech wise and what not but they can be a bit pricey.
Oh and Eurasia is a great place too, when we get busy here at work we send some over flow there. Hope this helps. Any meets here in edmotnon or what? BKM |
Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
what a bunch of ass's. I used to live over in that area and it was great. Just bad luck buddy. And Give us a break here at Southgate, we have a lot full of cars that have smashed windows and they take alot of time to get all fixed. lol

Re: EDMONTON:where is the action?
I took my S4 to Autobahn for maintenance repairs and they ended up leaving the manifold bolts less than finger tight, forgot to install my airfilter as requested and one thing led to another. My bill ended up being twice the price that I was originally quoted... They were great to deal with, don't get me wrong, however spending this amount of money in 2 days, I would assume that they would have done things 100%. I'll be searching somewhere else for regular maintenance.

While your story disapoints, there is sometimes a case when someone will allways screw-up with one customer... like a bad curse... they had a number of good "reviews": maybe if you approach Mark again?! |

BKM I got charged full price: what a shock! Last year, while still leaving in Toronto I was getting from 10% to 25% off, depending on the dealership, on list pricing just for asking. I spoke with Dan Arklie re: pricing and he was kind of surprised hearing that I expected to pay less than full retail! We talked and he could see my point... he suggested that perhaps if enough AUDI Forum users will mention it to Dan's management, they might do something about spare parts pricing. I am willing to do the leg-work: WHO IS ON-BOARD? |
