looking to see if anyone has one of these, or knows where I can get one locally.

Double ended tool, removes early 17mm hex drain plugs and also later 12 point tamper-proof drain plugs.

want to change my tranny fluid and need this.

also, anyone know a good place locally to get GL-4 gear oil? Concept 1 has GL-5 (which is supposed to be compatible) but I dont want to take chances with the transmission.

I just changed mine... Used oem fluids from the dealer, but you could also look up local dealers of redline gear oil, as I have heard good things about redline mt90.
As for the tool, I didn't use one. I used an air hammer (not recommended for the faint of heart).

ya, i know i CAN go to Audi, but i was under the impression that OEM fluid runs $40 + per litre @ Audi, versus some other more cost effective options.

and ya no, i think ill stick with recommended tools, have fuc#ed up a few things in the past that way.

Yeah, I had a different plug to put in after, so I no longer need to use the old tamper proof bs, so I didn't need to worry about effing up anything. The fill plug will also fit in the drain plug spot, so you can always just get an extra one of those.
My dealership charged $30/L for oem fluid. My local redline dealer charges $18/L for MT90. The tranny (on my B6) took 2.8L, so I needed 3 bottles.... I guess I could have saved $36 by using redline, but decided to play it safe.
GL-5 fluid is a big no no in your tranny. It will damage the copper syncros. I am surprised concept1 is selling gl5 saying it is ok. Gl5 is only ok for the rear diff.

Last but not least, i am sure you can buy the tool at your local dealership.

I don't know about a double ended tool but the 12 point sockets are available pretty much anywhere. Concept 1, ecstuning, etc...

I use Castrol synthec. 75/90 in my trani & diff on my old a4 and on my current s4. And those bits you could get them from snap on. I bought a set for $100 and included smaller ones to remove your axles.

75/90 is the recommended grade, but there is another number involved. You need 75/90 gl-4 spec for the tranny and 75/90 gl-5 spec for the diff.
Also, the axles don't require the tamper proof triple square socket, just stanard triple square (around $10 at partsource)

some autoparts stores will rent specialty tools for free. Give that a shot.
