The dealership parts department told be to be careful when buying a used
2000 a4 symphony (single CD/casset) model (even with code) because there was
a manufacturing split in that year and some of the symphonies use a
different connector in the back and are incompatible with those in the car.

They said to make sure that the model #'s themselves match before replacing
the radio.

The questions I have are as follows:

1. Can I get the model # from the serial # (which I have) somehow
(dealership, online, email, whatever?)

2. Is this issue regarding the incompatibilities true in the first place?

3. Are there differing models #'s that still work together?

it's amazing how much they know when your not buying from
them...............

remove yours and take digi pictures of all plugs and sockets then when
sourcing a replacement ask sellers for pics of their unit.

sourcing a replacement ask sellers for pics of their unit.

They are made by Blaupunkt so just buy a new Blaupunkt which sound
better than the original Symphonys. BP also make harness conversion
links to fit, just pick the right one to gobetween the head unit and
the car loom. You can also get the fitting kits that fill in the gaps
between Audis different front size and a standard unit.
