Default 13/14 Q5 Questions

looking at a 13 or 14 Q5 for the wife.
what should I be looking for? what are they known issues?

2.0t work better by those years? should I look for a 3.2 / TDi?

thanks!

I'm considering the exact same thing... TDI is great for towing, but VW/Audi have not settled the "Dieselgate" in Canada yet. The Gen2 TDI should be fine. It is a BEAST in the torque department. Earlier 2.0T engines needed new pistons & rings to address oil consumption, not sure when Audi fixed that issue (engine code CAEB). I heard the 3.2L is not great on gas, and eventually has injector issues. For me, it is 2.0T vs. TDI. Yes I know, VERY different.

Interested to see what people say.

ya from what I can see by 2013 the Oil Consumption issue was fixed in the 2.0, and so long as the Timing Chain Tensioner is done I havent seen much in the way of consistent issues.

Thanks kustom... do you know if a 2011 that has had its pistons & rings replaced under Audi's warranty for oil consumption is "fixed" or will the problem re-occur? Put another way, did Audi fix the pistons and rings to prevent future oil consumption or is it only a matter of time before the problem comes back?

My understanding is that the fix is permanent. I have only put ~25,000 km on our 2011 Q5 since the pistons and rings were replaced, but it is now impeccable in terms of oil consumption, only losing one or two bars on the oil consumption gauge between oil changes at 7500 km. The injectors were also replaced (under warranty about 30,000 km ago) but we get the occasional misfire recurring now. No big deal but rather annoying ...

Starting to think the 2.0T is one to avoid and go for a TDI Thanks!

Our 2013 2.0 T with 52,000 km has been trouble free. Uses some oil between annual changes but have never needed to add any. Right now it is overdue for service and going in next week. Oil level shows half way between full and add.
