I've just moved to Calgary for work for a couple of years and require some transport to get around. Having previously owned a few VWs back in Australia and loving them, i wanted to get something similar, although want something awd. I've had a look on kijiji and have looked at some cars, but not all that impressed. I'm not sure if its me, private sellers, or the standard of cars here?

Anyway, my budget is around $10k, give or take depending on car/condition. I'm looking for a B5/B6 (possibly B7 if my budget can stretch). Having driven a few 1.8T versions they seem to be lacking a bit of torque. Is the 3.0 the better option? Having no snow/ice where I'm from, an AWD car is a must. It needs to be automatic as well, i'm not that keen to learn manual using the other hand, and neither is my gf.

If anyone here is looking to sell, or knows something that may suit me please PM or reply in here.

The 1.8T is a great engine. I would sugest getting a 1.8T over the 3.0 and if you feel it is lacking torque, just get a chip (like APR, unitronic, Revo, etc...)

 

Thanks for the info. I hadn't planned on doing any modifications, but getting a chip/tune seems reasonable. They are so much cheaper here than back home!

Thought I would update this. I'm picking up an B7 A4 2006 model tomorrow night. It has the 2.0 FSI with quattro so i'm pretty happy with the car and the outcome of it all. Just need to get a set of summer wheels/tyres.

Not sure about tuning the car to be honest, i'm already paying out the bum for insurance as i'm classed as a brand new driver here, even though i have been driving for years back in Australia. It will probably push my premium up even more. The 2.0T is already pretty good as standard. Wait and see what happens in the future i think.

Personally I don't plan to report the chip to the insurnce company (it stays between us right )
The APR chip is only a ECU reflash. No physical modification to the car. It has multiple modes to chose from (selection through the cruise control button). I plan on keeping it most of the time on Stock mode since I have teenagers driving the TT and needing a pasword to switch it to one of the performance modes (91 octane, 93 octane or race 100 octane).
Most dealers can't even tell if the car was chipped, even less an insurance companies... I hope.

 

Well so far the car has been great, had a few things which need to be fixed but hoping that it's not going to cost an arm and a leg to fix everything. I'm now on the lookout for some nice summer wheels and tyres, or some winter wheels and tyres.

I ended up giving it a good detail myself at home, paint came up alright. It doesn't have any paint protection on the front so its got a few chips and scratches here and there. Interior has come up mint though, leather is nice and clean and conditions, put some audi sport floor mats in and its all good.

Serviced the car and changed timing belt and about to have some suspension fixed and an alignment and she will be perfect.
