Would like some input. As i am thinking either 2006 S4 or 2001 S4. Any info would really help Thanks

 

B7 = far more refined, awesome out of the box, sounds incredible, fit and finish and interior are fantastic, more updated looks, V8 + tune + exhaust will be a great performer, although it's quite stout stock. Electronics are pretty solid with lots of modern stuff like bluetooth, satellite radio, big LCD screen sat nav etc.

B5 = quite a bit older and thus the headaches of an older car persist, quite a bit smaller (which I like), older body style, but looks awesome with suspension done and nice wheels. Engine is very very strong with HUGE upside, however with huge power comes huge PITA of maintenance. Interior is a little dated, many have wood and really old school electronics (no real nav, no bluetooth, no MP3 capabilities etc.)

Both are great cars. What is your goal...just to buy a car that is fun and fast? A comfortable daily driver? Or do you want an hp monster? You can make a B6/7 S4 VERY fast for about $10,000 in modifications, and quite solid with just tune + exhaust + piggied OEM downpipes. The B5 can make a solid 400 whp on the stock motor with K04 turbos (upgrade, should cost about $8,000+ after full exhaust etc. and fuelling, tuning, turbos, cooling are upgraded.

So there you go. I bought the B7 S4, put JHM tune, piggied my downpipes, bought a Fast Intentions catback exhaust and it was a fantastic car. Looked great, sounded great, was reliable as heck and flew under the radar nicely as do almost all audis. I hate having a car break down on me, and my friends with B5 S4s were always bitching about their cars not running right or breaking down.
