I have always waited months and months whenever I custom order a car. I waited 8 months for my 2000 1.8T GTI (orange ), then maybe 4 months for my 2004 A4. I just ordered a 2012 A4 Avant with Premium Plus, S-Line and B & O sound system as options – and my dealership just told me (we are the 11th of October) mid-December as a delivery date – for sure. Now that seems very fast. He even told me that I might get it quicker if he can find the model I wanted at some other dealership in some other province (in Quebec).

Is he messing with me? A) can you get such an order that quickly? Doesn’t seem like Avants are very common and they cant be getting high priority B) Is there such a thing as being a to poach a car from another dealership?

 

Actually that's encouraging. I'm about to order a new Avant in Toronto and figured it would be in the new year sometime. I'll let you know what they tell me here.

I think I was lucky however. I talked to my dealer on Friday and asked him about his mid-December promise, and told him every other quote I had gotten mentioned a minimum of 3 months. He said that they were able to high-jack another order that had been placed in September and then cancelled, modify it with my specifications and reroute it my way.

Hope you get lucky like that. A couple of months is nothing compared to the 8-9 months I had to wait about 10 years ago when I custom ordered a 1.8t Orange GTi.
