Default 2003 allroad 2.7 timing belt questions???

hi all

I bought a 2003 allroad 2.7L 2 weeks ago. so far, I enjoy it.

According to the research I did about the Maintenance Schedule, it looks like I may have to change the timing belt before it makes toubles. My current mileage is 11,8000KM.

someone recommanded to have them replaced between 11,200KM to 12,000KM. someone said around 15,000KM.

when did you guys have yours replaced? DIY or dealer or independent services? how much would it be reasonable?

thanks in advance,

Frank

120,000 km or 75,000 miles. Check out

allroadfaq.com

They have full maintenance schedules pdf files posted. Hunt around a little you will see them.

that is what I got from a local VW dealer. It seems that I am in a magic zone now. but I rather stay for a while and see what will happen. since I only drive this car in town and 5,000km yearly.

thanks 01allroadsilver

Generally a Timing Belt kit is recommended anytime after 100K KM's. Time is also a factor as the belt can age in 8 - 10 years to the point where it needs to be replaced even if the mileage interval is less than 100K KMs. I know some documentation would suggest going as high as 150K KM's but is it really worth risking a belt break?

Recommend to pop the plastic covers open and inspect your Timing Belt for visible wear and cracks. If you see any cracks then it is time to install a complete Timing Belt Kit.

thanks in advance,

The 2.7 in an interference engine so the valves could be hit by the piston if the T-belt breaks. Contrary to popular thinking the whole front end of the car does not need to be taken off, just loosened up and pulled away from the top a little. Agree with other poster, age is a factor too. Did mine at 113,000 km and pulleys were rusted a fair amount.

No I think you can see the belt from under the car on a hoist. No sure. I have a V70 and the timing belt is due for service at 165,000 km and that's when I will do it not before. Don't get all stressed just do it at one of the service appointments 120,000 km or the 132,000 one.
