I recently got a barely used set of wheels and tires that were off a 08" A5. They are forged Venti Wheels 20" on Nitto Invo tires. Anyway I put them on my 05' A8 and they used hub rings but tire place said they would the fit was good. But i am having a vibration especially around 60mph.
I had a bmw and ran into the same problem when I bought a cheaper cast wheels and was told german cars need good quality wheels. The Venti package are 3 piece forged and ran me about $3500.
Any ideas what to do or should I just sell the wheels. I definitely do not want the car vibrating.
Thanks !

Man oh man could I write a book on this topic. My history with Audis, wheels, balancing and THOSE BLASTED NEVER SHOULD BE USED CENTERING RINGS (hub centric) is legend and dates from 1989 to present. I even took a guy to small claims court over it and won!
First off, the best advice is to never, never, never - did I say never? use centering rings to make a larger hub opeing on a wheel fit a smaller car hub. As an example, some Audis now have 66.6mm centre hub while the majority still have 57.1mm centre hub. Everyone will tell you that they work just fine. They work, but not to the preciseness that anyone on this forum would likely be satisfied with. I can't tell you how many balancings I have had over the years when the hub centric rings were the cause of the vibrations.
I had a recent (2010) experience after not using hub centric rings for 15 years. The wheel guy said the rings are much better now than years ago and should be fine with the 66.6mm to 57.1mm rings on a new set of wheels and T1R tires. They were not. Vibrations at 100kph and worse at 120kph and even wobbling at 5-10kph. Not major, bone jarring wobbling or vibrations, but not what you'd expect after paying $2800 for 18" wheels and tires either.
The wheel distributor and the wheel/tire guy finally admitted that cause was centering rings. The rings are just not as hard as the wheel and will deform slightly under the great stresses that they are put under. Once they deform, even very slightly, you will get a vibration. Balancing can never solve an inherent problem. It's not a balance or installation problem; it's an inherent design problem.
Only use wheels with exact hub centric fit for your car & damn the looks of other wheels. This is sound advice given hundreds of wasted hours and a few sets of wheels and tires with 2 different Audis over several years.
Ask the wheel guy to take back wheels and get hub centric wheels for your car. I doubt you'll ever be happy with the centering rings.
