Default new to audi... b5 a4 1.8t questions

i just bought a 98 a4 quattro with 1.8t and 5 speed manual... its all stock except it has an intake and cross drilled front rotor's... anyway i have a boost gauge and a manual boost controller from one of my old cars...im just wondering if i can run more boost then stock? like can the ecu keep up with fuel? or what can i use to get more fuel on stock components without chipping it...i dont have the $ for a chip right now will a fmu or fuel pressure regulator work? im not looking for lots of boost here keep in mind just a little more then stock without hurting the engine...im planning on changing my dv to the TT 710n before i install the mbc just figured i should mention that also... thanks for your time and advice is appreciated

I don't know if this will work for you but here is a post for the infamous diode mod. The first post is for facelift cars (post 2000) and the second one is for a VW with the same engine. It doesn't say anything about DBW (drive by wire) in the link but that may be one of the restrictions as it's a 2001 that he is working on. Try this at your own risk but good luck and let us know how your research goes.

I don't know. You'll have to do the research. A good place to start is the 1.8T Tech Forums on the Vortex. Good luck.

The fueling maps in your ECU are fixed. This is part of what changes when you get a chip. If you exceed the boost limits of the ECU boost map then you will trigger CEL and worst case engine enters limp mode. This does not give you much headroom to trick it with diodes, etc. The right thing to do is chip it if you want more boost, anything else is a bit hack-ish as your trying to trick the ECU instead of working with it's design features.

Either way, Good Luck!

ok thanks...i thought there might be away without chipping and the diode mod wont work on a 98 i read some where because it doesnt have a map sensor only 2000+ cars have a map. and i thought i read that the 98's dont have any fail safe's like limp mode or was i miss informed?
