Hi Guys,

For the last month I've noticed that I get a split second of hesitation when I apply the gas after I've down shifted. Here's the typical scenario.. I'm on the highway in 5th or 6th and traffic starts to slow, so I brake lightly and down shift a gear. When I get back on the gas (in the lower gear), my car hesitates for a second and then goes.. It's very strange... It never happens when I'm accelerating and up shifting through gears, only when I apply gas after a downshift. I just got the fuel pump replaced and filter replaced 4 month ago. Could it be the ignition coils?

 

Come on guys. Where are all the Audi tech heads. Help a brother out.

 

I was experiencing some hesitation with my A4 and did a number of things;
MAF sensor clean, new air filter, replaced coil pack #2 (after a failure), seafoam through the intake and fuel system. After doing all of these the hesitation is gone. Although I think it was happening most noticeably before the failure of the coil pack.

 

I'm going to drop in a K&N filter this weekend and see if that helps at all. Is there any way of testing my coil packs?

 

Im not sure about the coil pack, but the K&N filters are good, I replaced mine some time ago and its quite good. My advice for those:

Go over it and make sure there is no exes oil.
Dont be a tool, don't do airbox mod its not safe unless your in cali :P
And its a load of BS, it does not actually sound louder.

its defiantly worth upgrading old once, they are made of crappy paper.

Hey, thanks for the tip. I'm doing the K&N mainly because I'm trying to debugg this hesitation issue. I have a bad feeling that if I don't find out what's going on my car's just going to die on me one day...

 

I don;t think there's a way to diagnose a coil pack until it goes completely and a vag-com tool can pin-point which cylinder has the mis-fire. Other than that I would buy an extra one right now and keep it in the car so that as soon as one fails you can replace it wherever you are. In order to replace the right one without vag-com diagnosis, just replace the first coil pack and start up the car. If it's not better, put the original one back into the first spot and replace the second one. Keep doing this until you find the damaged coil pack and you're good to go. Another tip, don't buy STP coil packs. Mine failed within the hour. Go for Bremi if you can get them, very solid.

 

Another thing is, make sure you vacuum and wipe the entire compartment, just in case :P and expect a lot of cuts while doing the filter some of the screws are in the utter most ridiculous location.

No problem :P and bandaids are always handy :P like today for example! i was in my buddies dorm and he tried to tackle me ( not gay ) we were watching MMA lol, i was trying to give him the right form for take down , ****ing guy hit the cord and a glass lamp went flying to my head, i think i need a stitch or two on the back of my head, but for now ...BAAAM BANDAIDT!!!!!!!
