gas cap door latch

i cannot unlock my gas cap door latch....any suggestions?

Pop the trunk. You'll notice on both sides, there is a loonie sized cap, which contains the bolt that holds the tail lights on. Pull the right one off - and you'll see a red pull string there. Pull it...

If anyone knows how to re-"arm" it let me know.. I can't lock my gas cap right now.
