The dashboard lights on my '99 A4 1.8T seem to flicker on and off randomly - if I hold the left button / stalk that controls the analog clock, it seems to stay lit - so I think that something may be loose - OR - I am wondering whether it has something to do with the light sensor that is supposed to automatically dim the dashboard lights according to the light conditions (the manual says it has this feature, although, I have my doubts.)

Any thoughts?
