Question Quick Question about tranny.

Leaving work I put the keys in the ignition and let it sit for about 20 seconds without starting it. I heard from a forum to let it sit for a little bit before starting the engine to help something (can't really remember what). Anyway my music was on and I forgot the car was not on. I stepped on brake and put it in reverse. It rolled about 3 to 4 inches with my foot above the brake then I hit brake to stop because I realized it was not started. I started her up and continued. It drove fine afterwards. If I messed something up it would make a noise from tranny right? I also heard that messed up trannies rev high rpm's and the slow movement of the car doesnt match the rpm's. I just wanted to know if I may have messed something up or is what I did like putting a manual in nuetral when not started? It would make a noise or do the high rpm thing while driving if it was messed up right?

Sorry for such long post. THANKS a sh it ton everyone.

I don't see what could go wrong. The torque converter would absorb that short roll, and the trans sould be just fine.

It's normal for a car to roll a couple inches in gear. Nothing to worry about. Even if you didn't hit the brakes, the car would have stopped rolling on its own.

No worries, your car is fine and no damage done.

alright good deal. thanks a lot. Wow 4 wheel disc brakes are clutch. I almost rear ended an older truck with a steel bumper from an instant stop on the interstate. brakes stopped from 45 to 50 mph to 0 in about 30 to 50 feet. Thank goodness, I just got this car I can't imagine wreckin her
