Hi
My rack is also leaking.
I had it to the mechanic for another reason and he noticed the leak.

He said it is the rack and a new one would cost 500 - 800 dollars.

I am wondering how he knew it was the rack, and not a hose or something else?
He showed me the leak while the car was up on the hoist and it was dripping from just under the drivers side .

He said it would only leak while the car was running, as that is when the fluid is pressurized and circulating.

any thoughts on how I can troubleshoot this?
What about the price?
Maybe It is just a hose and would be much cheaper to fix?

Thanks

Same thing happened to me and it=bad rack. It was around $1000 parts and labour at a independent audi/vw shop.

I had an extended warrenty though, lucky me.

Same thing happened to me last month. I was getting quotes for $1600 - $2000 but I finally got it done for $1100. Shop around.
