Thule XL size roof box on 2014 SQ5

For those looking for the largest/longest among the new line of Thule roof boxes that will allow full opening of the rear hatch on the 2014 SQ5, I tested both the Soniic XL and Hyper XL on the OEM crossbars yesterday at RackUltra in Quebec City. The Thule fit guide recommends the L size to ensure complete hatch opening, but with 2 kids ans skis the L size was not sufficient. Good news is that the Hyper XL is a good fit (full hatch opening). The Sonic XL however is a little bit too long; I had to stop the hatch opening an inch or two before full opening to avoid hitting the spoiler, despite having moved the box fully forward. The Hyper XL let the hatch open fully with 2 inches to spare and wasn't even pushed fully forward. Both of these XL boxes have similar specs but the Hyper XL has different rear configuration from Sonic XL. A few pictures of the Hyper XL below (Day 2 after washing the car... Winter...):

Re: Thule XL size roof box on 2014 SQ5

So just made a long ski trip with this box. Got 5 pairs of alpine skis in there (modern tech so longest are 173s) with 2 x 90L and 1x 70L Thule Chasm bags without any issues. Wind noise was present (of course) but not very strong, and no water inside despite strong gusts of wing and heavy snow (Environment Canada "Heavy Snowfall" alert). Happy as a clam. Now if I can only remember to leave the keys someplace obvious so I don't sweat bullets next time as the family waits while I try to remember where I left them...
Oh yes, and I was able to push the box back an easy 6" compared to the previous photo, as the rear edge of the box is curved upwards... Has less of an "ICBM" vibe to it.
