Remote Starter Install - Who has one?

Looking at installing a remote starter (Compustar with Drone) on my SQ5.

One reputable shop in town has done them before. Other reputable shop states same, but cautions that if you have problems you will be totally shut down and calling a tow truck should it fail.

I want one due to the northern winter we have. I had a Compustar before and it was flawless on an Acura.

1) Has anyone installed one on a SQ5 or Q5?
2) Which model of starter?
3) Have you had any issues with it?

Thanks.

Got a q5 2.0t 2013. I Installed a old Autostart with a new bypass module from online. No issues works great and easy to install. compared to some cars.

Why not instal an engine pre-heater i.e. coolant heater? It would be much cheaper wouldn't it? Cost of electricity is cheaper than the cost of gas fuel. It's $0.077/kW.hr here from 7pm-7am. Let it run for 1-5hrs and you'll get a toasty cabin.

If you let the engine running in the morning to warm up the cabin you simply get 0.0 L/100km, wear and tear, engine kmtrage is higher than the odometer etc.

Not bad idea. If only you could install a remote control and not have to plug it in by using a secondary rechargable battery power...hmm I might be onto something.:)

Have the Viper Smart Start on my Q5 with the Directed iPhone App. Best investment I made!

Just curious what you guys are paying for the Viper Smart Start system installed? Also are you having to give up a key?

The whole story cost me 450 installed + 150 for 3 years of directed services with my iphone.

Re: Remote Starter Install - Who has one?

forgot to mention that the dealer wanted 800+ taxes for the exact same system + the 150 for the directed service...crooks!

I'm just curious as to which place in Calgary is quoting that price? I haven't started to look around yet, but will hopefully get around to it fairly soon. All I have so far is the oil pan heater installed by the dealer. It works okay, but not nearly as good as a normal block heater would be (not available on the Q5) or a remote starter.

Autotemp. Apparently they have "the best" audi installers but I just can't come to terms with that kind of premium. If you find somewhere else that has a good reputation please let me know.

Also, where is your plug for the oil pan heater?

Re: Remote Starter Install - Who has one?

The plug for the oil pan heater runs up inside the engine bay and I just have it sticking out ofthe front hood when needed. Not exactly he best solution (I would have preferred to have it come out from the front grill but I can't seem to find any way of running it through there with all the cooling radiators filling up the front space behind the grill). We don't use it that often.

I have a 2013 audi Q5. Looking to install a remote starter built into the original key fob. I understand Smart Road Canada and Lock Down Security are 2 vendors that offer this service. Has anyone used them and what feedback can you give. Also, (and most important) are you facing any issues after the starter has been installed. Thanks.
