I have a Q7 2012 with the towing package, including the towbar and the 7-pin (round) electrical wiring already installed. I'm wondering if there is a special adapter needed to convert the 7-pin connector to a normal 4 pin flat electrical connection for a trailer? I have one from my previous vehicle which worked fine with my van and boat trailer (Reese Towpower 78119, see pic).

Just wondering if anyone has used this adapter on the Q7 and if it works fine.

 

I believe you will be fine with that adaptor. I have tried both 4- and 5-pin adaptors (one from Canadian Tire!) on my Q5 with success. There is direct wiring between the pins - no internal electronic components.
