Only until they retire and can live in the Southern US during the snow filled Canadian winters.

Seriously though, most Canadians experience freezing temperatures and snow. With the Sline summer-only tires it is absolutely necessary to get winter wheels and tires. With the non-Sline wheels and tires it is not necessary but recommended. One province (Quebec) mandates winter tires under their Highwat traffic act.

That adds to the running costs then... on the plus side, your vehicle has several looks!

Winter tires are like seat belts you car MUST have it. Just because it's not mandatory doesn't mean people should consider it serious. Safety first.

It's a shame Audi made this a special order I really find this feature neat specially since it's adaptable both horizontal and vertical.

Congrats LOVE the packages you chose and the color combo.

Thanks warcity. While I only have about 50 km on the Q, I am completely in love with it. The grin is from ear to ear when I'm both behind the wheel and looking at it head on in my garage. A totally outstanding vehicle.

On the Audi.ca site, a standard feature for the 2011 Q5 called "Automatic headlight-range adjustment" says 'Utilizing input from the steering and speed of the vehicle, adaptive headlights pivot up to 15 degrees to allow the driver to see ahead in the dark by lighting up corners and bends more effectively.'
Isn't this the ADAPTIVE headlight? Now I am confused!

Yes Automatic headlight-range adjustment is the same exact thing as adaptive headlight. On the 2011 Q4 this is a $300.00 feature on the 2.0T, on 3.2 premium it is included.

Light bends with steering turn up to 15 degrees. Same thing different terms.

Actually, it is also included with the 2011 Q5 2.0T Premium Plus. On the 2.0T Premium it is part of the $900 Bi-xenon Headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights option.

It only adds marginally to the running costs (unless you opt for a second set of expensive alloy rims). The winter tires extend the life of the original all-seasons. THink of it this way - in 100,000 kms, you are going to need two sets of tires. You can either do it with the OEM all-seasons in summer, and winter tires in winter, or with two sets of all-seasons (OEM and replacements).

With all-seasons, you have to give up on them earlier, as you need more tread depth with them to get through the winter. If you only run them in spring, summer, fall, you might be able to use them until they are down to the wear bars.
