Oil consumption on 2.0T

Re: Oil consumption on 2.0T
If your on board computer didn't dispaly any message to add 1 liter of oil you are fine.
Thats what audi told me. You are getting those reading due to temperature variations and is normal. (As per audi..)
If you get a message to top up thats when you should be concerned. So for now my friend your okay.

Re: Oil consumption on 2.0T
The other annoying thing - the message from the computer popped up while on a long drive, well away from home (and any Audi dealers) and on a weekend. I stopped at Canadian Tire and bought Castrol Syntec that met the VW 502 00 specification (I can't recall if it was 0W30 or 5W40). Any other recommendations on what type of oil to use if you are far from an Audi dealer?

Re: Oil consumption on 2.0T
Syntec SAE 5W40 is ideal , I wouldn't put anything else..
keep track the number of kilometers driven from oil change to when the computer message appears to top up. This is very important, -Audi will ask you.
If your car is burning 1 liter approx. every 2000km or below , Audi will perform an oil consumption test. If the test fails, then they will ask to keep your car for about 2 weeks to have it inspected and fixed. Basically they have an inspector come in from Audi to run some computer tests and then the dealer gets approval and funding to proceed with the fix.
Usually what they do (And I knoe because i've seen it..) they remove the entire engine , take it apart completely and change parts accordingly.
I went to vist my Q last Friday, and it wasn't pretty..

Re: Oil consumption on 2.0T
I have now 15k and oil level is at min. No add oil message yet though.
Did oil change at 7k, next one is at 24k or so. So it looks like I need to top up every 7k or so.
I was told by Audi tech, that when oil indicator comes off, then it needs 1l of oil.

Re: Oil consumption on 2.0T
Update.. - I picked up my Q5 a few weeks ago.
During the 2 week period my Q was being serviced, I decided to go vist my Q.
When I walked in the garage area, my car was on a lift completely stripped. -engine was removed and hanging on a stand, transmission was removed and wheels. the mechanics informed me that they had to replace the entire lubrication system, all pistons and gaskets. They showed me the old pistons which were covered with black deposits all over.
They said the oil consumption issue 'should' be fixed and that we have to monitor the oil level.

Re: Oil consumption on 2.0T
Another oil warning came up just before Christmas, at about 22,000 km. So it seems my Q5 goes through a litre every 7,000 km. The 25,000 km service will save me from needing to add another litre until 32,000 km.
