Hello New Owner, New to This Forum

Hi there, nice to find this place hoping to meet some fellow Audi owners and get some good info.

I just bought a Q5 recently (picked up June 27th) and already I am noticing black stains/grease/dirt on the rims. Did anyone else notice that on their cars?

Also the car recommends to have gas of 95 octane, when I filled up the highest I can find is 91 octane, are there places in the GTA that have 95 octane level gas?

Thanks for the help in advance,

First, congrats.
Second, yes, stains on the rims, can be removed with car wash soap. As for what the stain is? you'll have to wait for someone more technically inclined than me.
third, 95 Octane? is that the 2.0 T? My 3.2 recommends a minimum of 91 (available at Esso, Shell, PetroCan). I've only seen the 94 Octane with PetroCan. I've never seen 95. There's various discussion on this forum about use of various Octane levels.
Cheers.

Congrats and please post pics!!

For the stains, are you talking about the accumulation of brake dust? We're washing the rims every week. We just use the regular carwash soap and I use a toothbrush to get into the little nooks since I'm tired of "squeezing" the old mitt/my fingers between the gaps... (my fingers are much smaller than my husband's) When it happens to go 2 weeks, I noticed that the rims look stained (bigger black spots/very dark gray look), but there not - it justs takes longer to clean.

For gas, same as LMcQueen, I only know of PetroCan having 94 octane. I put Shell's 91 octane because it's closer and I get airmiles...

Ciao!

Are you sure the recommended fuel is 95? Audi is notorious for brake dust on the OEM pads. I am going to change mine soon to the HAWK ceramic pads.

That's what they wrote in the owner's manual.

I went with Shell 91 octane anyhow.

Thanks for the comment on the brake dust.

number9 - welcome to this forum and congrats on your new Q

I have the same problem with my mags. Not only do my mags get covered with brake dust but I've noticed little black tiny grease dots all over the side panels and even the entire back end of my Q.

One day while at the dealer, I asked what can be done in regards to this issue. (My Q5 is white so it really bothers me to see all this mess..)

They suggested the following products:

1)Use "Simoniz wheel cleaner" (They said don't worry about corrosion as genuine audi mags are designed for these products..) or any mag cleaner you can find.

2) make sure your wheels are clean , cool, and dry then apply "Armour All Rim Protectant"
This product repels brake dust, road grime and dirt.

3) If you have see little black brake dust spots/dots along the side panels or body of your vehicle, buy "Mothers California Gold Clay Bar kit" around 35$ but worth every penny!
Comes with 2 - 80 gram Clay Bars that removes all contaminants from your entire body of your vehicle. A Showtime Instant Detailer (Which lubricates surface for clay gliding, and also includes a Microfiber towel.

Then re-wash and wax the Q

-I took their advice and took me 2 days to clean up all the mess from my mags and enitre side panels and back end.

Audi said by doing this treatment the vehicle will not get as dirty and will be alot easier to clean as most of the brake dust/grease dots will repel off the car.

Hope this helps..

In case you are not aware one of our sponsors specializes in high end car care products. Check out e-Shine here on the forum. They do offer discounts for members. The e-Shine products are far superior to anything you can get at Canadian Tire.
