Also – does anyone here go for / recommend a 1,000 to 2,000km pay out of pocket oil change? I have done this with previous vehicles to get the initial break in filings out sooner than the 6-8k recommended synthetic oil interval. We have just turned over a thousand on ours this week so I was thinking I may do this.
Depends on how much oil your car runs. The 335i takes a huge amount of oil but I only had to change it every 20,000K. No oil pan heater either (because of the large amount of oil). I bet Audi's are the same which is why buying their $300 oil pan heater is probably a mistake.

BMW's are a bit nuts for the amount of oil that take, particularly for that inline 6. I believe that a lot of Porsche 911 models are the same way.

I typically change the oil in my cars once in spring, and then again in Fall with a premium synthetic. Generally it is always before the maintenance light come on, I do it more for convenience than anything else. I hate changing oil in the winter when the car is covered in road salt and the garage is a frosty 5 degrees.

If it’s a matter of figuring out if the $750 audicare is worth the money or not perhaps one could break it down as follows:

8,000km, 25,000 km, 40,000 km, 55,000 km, and 70,000 km oil changes are supposed to be included on our 2013 Q5 3.0. They charge $120 at the Mr. lube for a full synthetic change on our 2.5 liter VW with a slightly special oil filter (adds $10). I expect the 3 liter Audi will be at minimum that and could be upwards of $140. What will the dealership charge for the same? $200? Right there those 5 oil changes are worth at minimum $600. At the dealership / stealership could be upwards of a grand.
I haven’t done the research (or checked the manual myself yet) but I’d suspect there to be at minimum another few hundred bucks in fluid changes and what not that are service interval recommended by 70,000km’s.
$750 for audicare which includes a free booked loaner vehicle so you don’t have to wait around for yours seems worthwhile to me. I hate having to wait for shuttle service all the time when I have my Jeep in. Nice to get the free loaner and just pick up your vehicle when your ready.

Thoughts?

All,

Might want to check your service/warranty book, I think all recent Audi's get the 8k service included gratis.

My 2012 A4 had it included, and I didn't go for Audicare.

I think it's breakeven to get it for $750 if you were planning to get it all done at the dealer anyhow. By opting out (assuming you can't get a deal on it) you get the choice of where to have it done and you can advance the intervals if you want.

Personally, I'm going more towards a 10k oil change interval
