Here are my extra charges:

$595 Financing Fee. Never was charged this with BMW. My girlfriend has an Audi she bought in Edmonton, she wasn't charged the financing fee either.

$299 Pan Heater. A complete gouge; I most likely wont even need it with the amount of oil this thing runs plus it's the worlds most expensive pan heater.

$160 Locking Wheel Nuts Installed. Another gouge. Was never charged anything like this at BMW. I could buy a set and install them myself for $60.

$395 Registration Fee. Pretty standard charge and the same amount BMW charges but I thought I would add it on anyways.

Best part of all this was how these charges were casually slid across the desk to me seconds after I paid my non-refundable deposit.

The vehicle was awesome to drive though.
I hear you on the extra gouging charges at the time of sale. I had our sales person at Glenmore send me PDF’s of a number of invoices along the way for us updating them with the most current finance rates, discounts & options we were looking at.

Before we ordered ours we saw the $595 financing fee. I thought that was a bit much considering we were putting about half down on the vehicle. I mentioned that and by the time the next updated invoice came over with some other changes the fee was removed completely. Not sure if this was their mistake or what but I didn’t complain.

We also had the pan heater on our original invoice / quote prior to ordering. I told them to remove it since the vehicle goes from heated garage to heated underground parkade and that was the end of that.

Lock nuts I told them to remove as well. I bought my own set online for $50.

Registration fee we did get charged and it was the $395. When I asked about that and fussed saying we will do the ‘registration’ ourselves for like $80-$120 at the registry, they said it was not just that cost included in the $395. They said when a vehicle comes in its all covered in plastic and various protection wrapping. So all that needs to be removed, then completely cleaned up, then they apparently do some polishing work and make sure the vehicle is mint upon delivery. I thought to myself, when someone buys a 60k+ vehicle or any vehicle for that matter, wouldn’t you expect it to be clean and not have to pay extra for a clean one?! Haha At the end of the day I was tired of fussing about every little thing and let this charge slip.

Anyways – we had zero surprise charges upon delivery so I was happy about that. Sorry to hear your experience was a little different. Glad you love the vehicle though! We do too.

No doubt.

I have found that all local dealers hit customers with these type of gouges. I paid Kia something like $495 for a "mandatory" safety package which was basically locking lugs, nitrogen in the tires, and a state-of-the-art etching system (stickers) to safeguard me in the event my car was stolen and parted out. It's par for the course. Not to say it isn't frustrating, but I'm just so used to it.

One would think wouldn’t they?! Haha
Oh well. The new registration / transfer would have cost around $100 + the minor hassle to do it ourselves. So at the end of the day we still paid ~ $295 in ‘dealer gouging fees’. Could have been worse…

I did ask that the financing charge, oil pan and lock nuts be taken off but apparently I didn't ask hard enough. It would be nice if these extra charges "disappear" at delivery time like they did at Glenmore Audi in your situation but I am not holding my breath.

Those of you who are familiar with Volcano Red, what do you think of the colour? Originally, that's the colour we went with on our order, but after seeing a Q5 loaner at the deaier in that shade, we changed our order to Estoril blue. The videos online of the bright red TDI promo vehicle looked amazing, so I assumed that was Volcano. The vehicle I saw at the dealer had a much more orangey tone. I like my reds red. Thoughts?

I saw a Q5 in what I assumed was Volcano Red and it looked pretty good but you are right, there's some orange in the paint. I'm thinking they are attributing volcano to magma which can be orange tinged.

I chose Phantom Black with Black interior. I picked up mine 4 days ago. I am loving it. The acceleration is great and the look is beautiful yet aggressive especially with the 21" rims.

It was a funny moment when the sales guy thought I was kidding when I told him I didn't dig it. From certain angles, I liked it, but it was nothing like what I had seen online (Euro spec).

That is a killer colour combo. I went with the 21'ers too. They look great. Congrats on your new SQ5. I won't have mine for 3 more months.

Yeah, 3 months is the typical eta from what I'm reading. Luckily my dealership was able to grab one already on the ship to Halifax that had what I wanted. Instead of 3 months I got the car in less than 2 week!
