2010 Q5 transmission problem

Hi, all. I picked up my Q5 3 weeks ago in Toronto. It has 1600kn on the clock.
But I notice that when the car come to a near stop I feel the transmission jerking or kicking badly from 2nd to 1st. I find that very annoying, I think it is an engineering defect. I did a online search, fund that many other Q5 owners have complains about it, Has anyone here have the same trouble as me? How you guy deal with it, I gonna call Audi Canada and dealer first.

Re: 2010 Q5 transmission problem

i had and now have again (after the dealer fixed it) the same problem. 2009 A4 2.0T.

Mine happens from 3-2 badly and lightly at 2-1. There is a TSB to fix it. The TSB calls it hard downshifting. and it's true, my car shakes a little when it down shifts auto.

take it the dealer and they will reflash something per the TSB and it should be good.

the car is only 3 weeks old, I doubt there is a newer TSB or software

Re: 2010 Q5 transmission problem

I brought the car in yesterday, they said that they had one case like mine before with Q5, they are going to do a transmission learning programme adjustment, it will take 4-5 hours, they said they need to take the car on different cycles( highway,urban..), adjust the tranny shifting point. Hope they can fix that, will take the car back on saturday

so what does that mean? They have to drive the car around for you? Wouldn't it be better to leave the car in learn mode and let the car adapt to YOUR driving style than theirs?

Re: 2010 Q5 transmission problem

yes, they say they will have to drive the car around, I don't think in learning mode I can change the way it downshifts, I would like they change a new tranny. may be no many people like the current transmission, so Audi give the 2011 model a new 8 speed

Makes sense, but my understanding is the 8 speed for 2011 is only on the 2.0T and 6 speed on the 3.2 is that not the case or they both getting 8 speed?

It took 2 weeks and 350 kilometers of driving to reprogram mine but the "thunk" is gone.

Folks, I've noticed the "thunk" (lightly from 2-1) with mine, too. Would you be kind enough to let me know exactly what was reprogrammed so I can let my dealership know once I do my first oil change at 8K.

When we get a chance, I'd love to experience the thunk. Maybe I have it too and just don't know it.

Yeah, would love to switch babies and try them out! There's also the rubbery noise when I turn the steering wheel to park or manouever, have you experienced that, too? Otherwise, am a happy camper! Would love to test drive the 2.0L with you, too, one of these days! When we have time during the weekend, let's go to our nearest Audi dealership (Warden/Sheppard).

For sure next time we can swap around and give it a shot. It's funny I have the exact same steering wheel sound at low speed. It's annoying I might take the car in next week.

Test driving thew new 2.0t. I am down that's a great idea.

Keep in touch.

Nice to hear from you, warcity! Still up, but will crash anytime soon. Will have a couple of hours free (5 - 8pm) this Sun to switch babies and compare notes...specially the steering wheel sound. Are you in? For the 2.0L, let's try it out when I'm back, say around the week of 20 July. Speak soon!

Re: 2010 Q5 transmission problem

They did mine the same - performed a SW update and did a adaptation road test. That was a couple of days ago. I am still testing if that fixed the problem. But now I find the car is quite strange. Is that what it's still learning?

Re: 2010 Q5 transmission problem

it is still there after soon long time and road adaptation, I though the new 8 speed tranny will be better
