Turbos...

Very general topic, but I want to know if any of you have experience with Turbos/Turbo Upgrades...

What company did you buy it from and what sort of power increase did it give you?

Also, if you go into your profile section there are now avatars you can choose

ATP GT28RS Eliminator

I just installed my Garrett GT28RS Eliminator this weekend. It's from ATP-Turbo, it gives about 300HP. The whole installation process took two days to complete with a friend working together with me.

I use Unitronic software. It does run very strong and smooth. Throttle response very quick, but you still have the a lot of control. I got mine done by Sean Higgins, down in Deerfield, IL, US. Very good customer service. I think it's already worth the extra money just because of this. This software needs a boost controller to control the boost, and just bypass the N75 valve. I use a Greddy Profec B Spec II. I'm still playing with the settings.

The 3" intake is almost a must. The stock intake is just way too small. Don't think about saving this $300.

For the B6:

K04-015 which is a bolt on turbo. You will need larger injectors for that. 360cc to 386cc Bosch injectors would do (these are just plug and play). DSMIC (Dual Side Mount Intercooler) or FMIC (Front Mount) is recommended (I personally feel that it is a MUST). Aftermarket exhaust. You can piece together this kit yourself. As for software, there is GIAC and REVO that offer a very solid program.

Greedspeed offers a SK04 kit. It is a modified K04 turbo. All I can say is that the Neuspeed software it came with didn't work well AT ALL.

I've installed various setups from k04's to custom T3/T4 setups. I currently run a hybrid GT3071R turbo on my own software. My last dyno pull, I was able to do 289whp on a mustang dyno. If you're intrested in a BT setup and need some guidanace just ask :)

1) What other performance mods do you have on your car?

2) How much was the BT setup including installation...?

Thanks!

To answer #1;

SPP FMIC with all custom plumbing
All intake and exhaust pipes made by me exlcuding the muffler which is a Borla
Custom desgined and fabricated exhaust manifold which I just re-finished about a month ago
630CC Injectors running at 3.2 bar
Boost set at 18psi, Greddy Type S BOV (no choice)
ClutchNet 6Puck Unsprung solid metalic clutch with LWFW
Bils all around for my suspension with Perrin C-Links
Walbro 265LPH fuel pump (not a drop in)

I'm sure there's more but I can't remeber

It's a weird situation. I had a 2871 but the turbo housing had a defect when I received it. Garrett said to use it any way so I did. I ended up springing a leak at the oil feed which was a complete PITA and the turbo couldn't be repaired. So the warrantied the turbo (only had it 4 months) and I upgraded to a 3071 at that time. I originally paid about $2300 for the 2871 setup. Installation was all done by me, but I usually charge by the hour unless I workout something with the car owner prior to installation.

Re: Turbos...

Which turbo is stock on the Audi TT 225 ? is it the K04-015 or something bigger?
what's the compression ratio for that engine?

All this talk of a turbo is getting my mouth watering....:D:D

I just got my car 2 months ago and want to upgrade parts and power already, crap;)

Re: Turbos...

nevr mind....I got it.

the stock turbo in the TT 225 is the K04-020 which is designed for the transverse engine. apparently it is too difficult to put it on a longitudinal engine, plus it needs the TT225 exhaust manifold and a bunch of other stuff to be mounted.
this is an option for the FWD cars.

apparently the comp. ratio is 9.5:1 . (I got this from a website.)
It seems too high...the 170hp 1.8T engines have a comp. ratio of 9.3:1 to compensate for the extra boost (.8bar).

Hhmmmmm! Interesting!

(I'm still learning about engines and Audis in general, SOOO interesting!)
