Any Tip Stage3 B5 S4's in Ontario
Ok, at the risk of sounding un-cool and have die-hard pro-shifters roll their eyes at this thread:rolleyes:.. Are there any stage3 tips anywhere around Toronto. If yes, where did they get the job done, (if not themselves) in particular, the torque converter and transmission work. Thnx

Sorry, not Toronto (Vancouver). I am stage 3+ and have not touched the transmission as of yet

bondra - did you upgrade the Torque Convertor and are you using a Tip Chip ?

Re: Any Tip Stage3 B5 S4's in Ontario
Stock torque convertor for now, I might upgrade later. Not using a tip chip yet either, just changed code to sport code (00032). I plan to go with the GIAC tip chip soon though.

Re: Any Tip Stage3 B5 S4's in Ontario
The stock TC has an internal seal that can start to leak with major power upgrades and will throw a CEL. At StgIII- with stock fueling (for now), I've been waiting for my TC seal to let go but so far so good.
If / when you do upgrade the TC, have you decided which vendor your going with? |
Re: Any Tip Stage3 B5 S4's in Ontario
No, I know the TC will probably need to been done at some point with the power I am putting down. I plan on letting Shawn at Kinetic Motorpsort deal with it when the time comes.

Re: Any Tip Stage3 B5 S4's in Ontario
Wow, i thought there might have been one or two. The reason I ask is that I got my s4 without knowing what-so-ever about the after market tuning. I just thought it looked great, drove well and comes with a nice finish. I don't want to trade-in for a stick just to get upgrades - anyway.
Bondra, do you know whats involved with tc upgrade. Does it need to shipped out or simply parts swapped for performance ones? Have you done any 1/4 miles yet? - interested to know the difference between dumping at 4000 and starting at 900 from a dig. Thnx |
Re: Any Tip Stage3 B5 S4's in Ontario
You certainly don't want to dump at 4000 and you likely don't want to performance launch at 900 either. For 1/4 mile, a brief brake torque up to 1800RPM just before launch works well, unless you upgrade your TC to a higher stall (but then you lose some drivability). Keep the brake torque brief as it is hard on the AT fluid and clutch paks.
Just to note, replacing TC is a lot of labor. |
