Weird rattling noise in Audi SQ5
 

Hi folks,

I am new to the forum and also new to Audi. I bought my CPO 2018 SQ5 recently (4 months ago) at the Audi Midtown Toronto and I noticed that a really strange noise is happening when accelerating. It is hard to point it put where exactly is coming from, when the car is stationary, I can’t hear the same noise when giving gas. I am assuming it might be some CV joint that is going bad but I can’t say for sure because never heard how it sounds.

I posted a video of a 6 minutes ride with a GoPro attached to the upper control arm on the front wheel, passenger side. Would be really helpful if someone recognizes the noise and provide some thoughts.. I already have an appointment at Audi, but I want to get there with some ideas in mind of what I am dealing with.

Not yet, the Audi dealership at Midtown Toronto is aware of the problem now for almost 4 months and keep telling me that the lead engineer in the region will come over to look at it. But so far nothing. They told me they suspect the noise comes from the back of the engine, and all SQ5 has the same noise , just not as loud as mine.

I will keep this thread posted as I get updates. Do you have the same issue?

My 2018 Q5 is making the same noise. Any update here? Did you figure out what it was?

UPDATES:
So, after a lot of back and forth with the Audi Midtown Toronto they finally asked me to drop the vehicle at the dealership so their expert could have a look. So i dropped the car in the morning of Feb 22, and in the mid afternoon i get a call from their foreman. They said they saw the video and reproduced the noise and basically told me this is normal for TFSI engines (almost make them sound like a diesel engine at times). Honestly, it was a bit disappointing to hear that and i didn't want to take the matter any further. Since my vehicle is still under warranty, I took it back and will continue driving.

If any of you folks get a different opinion from a trusted mechanic please let me know.
