Replaced my allroad with a Sonata

I would rather shoot myself, rental only.

Not a bad car but can not compare to an Audi

I suffered the inevitable fate of all allroad owners, suspension collapsed,(68,000 Miles) has been going on for a while. Started with intermittent driver's front sag then every day then it would not inflate. Definitely temperature dependent.

It is in the shop today having four Arnott airbags installed plus four Bilstein shocks, plus a new compressor for good measure. I ordered the Hotchkis sway bar but it is on back order.

I inspected the parts before I took them in. They look very well made and very sturdy. I was not part of the 20 % Group Buy but did get the 10 % discount.

For people keeping track, $2500.00 in parts plus I was quoted 6 - 8 hours for labour depending on how things come apart.

Just found a broken driver's side CV boot, I will have that done too.

Expect a different ride when I get it back, I will write about that at a later time.

Alex.

Keep us posted. The allroad is one of my favorite platforms.

Re: Replaced my allroad with a Sonata

Labour was $600.00 but I did not use the compressor so subtract $400.00 from the parts. I will keep it a couple of months to make sure that I do not need it then it will hit the classified section, $400.00 brand new, in the box, "Made in Germany".

We will see.

Feels a lot firmer and tighter as a first impression. Goes up and down a lot faster too. Seems a lot higher at each level too. Cruises like it used too. Quiet and smooth.

Providing it last the life of the car, well worth the cost.

Total cost; $2200

Alex.

PS:Used parts are at H2Sport, I told then to give them away to a good home. One front and both rear bags are still working. Shocks, all around are 70,000 Miles, (American car) use at your own risk.

Re: Replaced my allroad with a Sonata

Just an update on the cost, 2200 was the parts plus another 500 for install. Not a bad deal, from info on various threads.

Car is a lot firmer, feels very steady.

One observation that I never considered. I did not measure the hieght of the car with the orginal system but the new bags seems that it is about an inch higher on all settings. I drive and live on level two as I understand that is the default setting. The car seems higher than I remember and looks like a Volvo XC90 on level 4, 17 inch rims.

System operates fast both up and down, very happy with the change. I will consider this well worth it providing it lasts a long time.

Maybe the car had been lowering itself slowly for quite a while, so it would have actually been lower than the "stock" #2 setting?

Re: Replaced my allroad with a Sonata

I just changed all the air bladders and compressor on my 04 allroad with 168,000miles. I bought the parts at buyautoparts.com total for 4 air bladders and the compressor was $1500.00 plus the labor $400.00. The car is new again.
One tip if your car sags don't wait change the air bladder and save the cost of a new compressor
