Quatro 5000 starting problem

I have an older 5000 which until now has been a good starter.BUT Murphy hits us all.
Will start when cold, but has trouble maintaining rpm and stalls unless you keep it reving at least 1000 till the temp climbs to 100 F. Even then its iffy. When you shut it down after driving, it won't start for at least an hour sometimes 2.
Have changed the distributer cap, rotor, wires and plugs ( needed it anyway). Fuel pump and pressure are good.
From what I have read on various forums, it appears that my problem is an ignition module. Any ideas as to if this could be source
Thanks in advance Any advice would be appreciated

Hi,

from anything I read about those kind of problems it is most of the time the hall sensor inside the distributor.

Greets!

This is where you want to go : Audi Parts Specialist, SJM Autotechnik 503-244-2834, Audi Quattro Parts, VW Parts

Which engine do you have? If it's a turbo I'd check and see if your idle stabilisation valve (ISV) wiring is intact, then clean the goop out..if you can blow air through it the seals are done and you have a massive vacuum leak. After that your warm-up regulator (WUR) is the next most likely suspect, from there work on down the list including the various Hall senders.
