Alternator warning lights

I have an 83 Audi 5000 Turbo and yesterday while I was driving the alternator warning light came on all of my gauges stopped working so we stopped the car. Let it cool down popped the hood....all levels look good, the belts look tight, and I have a new battery, according to the manual this might be my alternator gone bad? Any idears?

Re: Alternator warning lights

Also after a few hours we turned the car back on, no more warning lights, seemed fine. But it does seem to be running a little hot. Drove around for a little bit and the same thing happened again, could my v belt just be slipping?
