Hi i want to buy and audi but which engine??

Hi everyone, my name is matt and i recide in toronto. I havent got an Audi but i have been in the market for quite some time waiting for the perfect deal. I have been looking at the A4 2002+ in a 6 speed of course!! and engine choice has been a great factor. I want power to start with and with the possiblity of upgrading performance. How easy is it to get a 1.8T to make some descent numbers. Or is the 3.o L V6 a better choice? i heard that i should stay away from the bi turbo 2.7L engines is this tru? any advice would be great!! thanks.

Hey Matt, if you are looking at a basic A4 then they come with a turbo 4 cylinder or a non-turbo 6 cylinder. The 2.7 turbo motor is in the higher end cars but to be honest I don't know a lot about this motor so I am unsure of the problems it may have.

If you just want a bit of power and don't want to go upgrade mad then the V6 version is the better way to go. It has 1 litre more of displacement and probably more torque so right out of the box it is probably quicker. Its short-coming is the lack of mods for this motor, the tuner market hasn't done a lot of development into this motor so it is hard to make it much faster.

The 1.8T is a smaller motor with less power from factory but hands down it can easiler make much more power than the V6 motor. The 1.8T is a different storey, there is such an aftermarket with this motor that you can make the motor push from stock to well over 300 hp with just bolt-ons.

This is what I have picked up so far with this car, if you just want a little extra power go with the 6 and if you want a lot go with the 4. Keep in mind that more power means more maintenance, the higher strung the motor is the more that can break and wear. If you can barely afford the car you may want to think seriously about modding it.

Your best bet is to go to as many Audi forums as you can read all of the FAQ's & stickies you can find and inform yourself about the car & motor. Many of these questions have already been answered and a wealth of information can be found by spending a few hours searching through different forums.
