Trunk latch ground fault

Trunk latch replaced under warranty but not fixed. Dealer says it is some kind of ground fault. Cannot latch trunk, and originally The trunk unlatched when I pulled the windshield washer stalk. Is there a clue in this relationship that could point to where the problem lies? Car stored in heated garage so no corrosion. Before latch replaced I could hear a whirring in the area of the trunk latch that could be interrupted by activated trunk release, but latch would not close.

Thanks for any suggestions, Geoff

Ground is the more important everywhere in electronic but sometimes the pcb's are faulty. Also, there is maybe a pintch wire somewhere.....hours of plaisure !!

It is fixed now. Indeed it was hours of pleasure, but luckily the dealer's not mine. Finally determined it was the convenience control module under the dash. First one fedexed overnight from US proved defective??(there are five diff versions of this module for 2013). Second module worked fine once it got programmed from German Dealer Service line.
