Need air filter information, 2008 TT 2.0

Want to replace the OEM air filter with a K&N, but without changing the OEM engine cover, on a 2008 TT 2.0. Plan is to remove old filter and block/close up its position. Then add a K&N cone filter on the forward right side of the engine cover, and remove the black plastic intake from the front bumper wall to the engine cover intake. Is this workable, any ideas?

I always struggle with why change the factory intake? The OEM intake draws whatever cold air there is into the engine. Changing that or blocking that off and drawing air from the engine compartment defeats that purpose. The air from the engine compartment is hotter than any air drawn in from the front of the car through the factory intake.

I also struggle with the so called improvements of a K&N filter. There is plenty of documentation that there really isn't any significant gains to justify the extra cost.

My philosophy is to change/clean the OEM filter more regularly.

Looks like posting on the TT site is slow, so I decided to post my filter decision. After speaking to an APR rep and the local dealer I went with the K&N replacment filter. Purchases it from Whitney for 48 and free shipping. Now all I have to do is get the SOB engine cover off, ya it's worse than yanking molars. FWIW, Dennis.

Sorry it took so long but I use the OEM filter and change it twice per year and clean (blow) it between chanages.

from what I understand, the K&N filters are oil based and in the long run it will ruin your MAF. I don't know if that's just for the older models or if it also includes the newer models.
