2009 TTS - Engine misfire and valve springs replacement
 

First off, hello there! :cool:

I picked up my new TTS a couple months ago and absolutely love it. i have had a recurring issue with engine codes P300, P302, and P303 which indicate misfires. they have happened 4 times, always under aggressive acceleratiuon in sport mode, and have now discovered, at the top end of 5th gear.

I've had her in a couple of times and really outside of the MIL coming on and a slight hesitation in the engine, there's no noticeable effect on performance.

The dealer has determined that the valve springs need to be replaced, last time she was in they discovered they had the wrong colour banding? or something. the aprts ar ein, and she's getting fixed now, which is cool, but thought I'd just post that tidbit of info should anyone else have a similar problem, or found a different solution.

PS... make sure the dealer knows they need a special tool to replace them.

OMG.... YESSSSSS!!!! I really don't want to drive anything else anymore. Got a BMW at home and she just sits there wondering why nobody drives her anymore.

What an amazing vehicle...... performance, fuel economy, functionality, style, and let me tell you, she's one sexy little girl. :cool:

After driving all the competitors to her, nothing even came close.

Wow, so your springs are too soft and you're getting valve float at certain harmonics? The chances of a VAG factory making such an install error is highly unlikely - have you seen how those places are run?! This would likely also mean that there is a whole run of TT-S's that have these incorrect springs; which, would mean that there is a Technical Bulletin about it.

I'm really interested in what is going one here, please keep us updated.

Finally have my baby back, Yay! Here's what they did according to the work order:

"REMOVE VALVE COVER AND THE COLOR OF THE VALVE SPRINGS IS WHITE & YELLOW. REQUIRE REPLACEMENT.

FOLLOWED ELSA PROCEDURE TO REMOVE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP. CYLINDER HEAD COVER. TIMING BELT. CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER. CAMSHAFT GUIDE PLATE. CAMSHAFTS. R&R VALVE SPRINGS AND VALVE KEEPERS. FOLLOWED ELSA TO REMOVE VACUUM PUMP AND CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER.

REMOUNTED ALL REMOVED PARTS IN RESPECT TO ELSA INSTRUCTIONS AS IN TIMING BELT. CAMSHAFTS. CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER. GUIDE PLATE FOR CMASHAFTS. CYLINDER HEAD COVER. HIGH PRESSURE PUMP. REFILLED COOLANT SYSTEM. CLEARED ALL FAULTS. TEST DROVE VEHICLE. RE SCANNED AND NO MISFIRE FAULTS PRESENT."

So, if you valve springs are White and Yellow, they are the wrong ones, apparently.

Hopefully this info will help somebody, somewhere, someday. lol

No, but fortunately it's all under warranty so it didn't cost anything.

BTW, I love the rims on your TT. :-)

I Have had a new tts s-tronic and i have a same problem in 4th gear at high rpm.at 165km 6650rev.replace high pressure pump and coil but the problem have not solved.the diagnostic computer found trouble code:misfire cylinder 3..the problem happened under agressive acceleration no only on sport mode.
what is a solution..is the same?
