Default 20" Stasis Aluminum Wheels

Hi

My 2010 TTs has 20" Stasis Aluminum Wheels put on by previous owner. I checked the website stasisengineering.com and it seems that these are great wheels designed specifically for TTs to increase performance, control and cornering.

However when I turn fast (on 90 degree turns) or jump over a little bump, I hear a noise like the tires are scratching the inner surface of the mudgaurds. I hear the noise both on left or right turns mainly from the rear tires. But when I turn slowly, there is no noise.

Is this normal? I used to drive a SUV, so I'm not sure this is because the car is so low or something else is wrong.

I appreciate your feedback.
thanks

Wow, 19lbs for a 20" wheel is crazy lightweight - no wonder they're over $5K!

Your tires are probably rubbing the wheel liner or fender. You can usually see wear on the fender/liner or the tire, which will help you locate the problem. Are you lowered? Is the wheel offset changed via spacers or the Stasis wheel?

I took the car to Volco tires yesterday and they said the wheels + tires are too big for the car and although the car is NOT lowered, still it will rub againts the fender. The tires are Toyo 265/30/R20 which seams to be too big. I don't know about the wheel offset. Is there anyway to measure it?

I think I have to change my wheels because any little bump and or slightly fast turns casue the tires to bottom up and rub on the liners.

I have 2 options, keep the Stasis wheels and change tires ONLY (~1500CAD) or change both wheels and tires 19" (~2000CAD). I'm not sure which option is better.

The wheel offset is usually stamped on every wheel on the inside face or barrel, but calling Stasis is probably easier than jacking up the car and removing a wheel. Your tire radius is 7mm larger with the Stasis setup; and, they are also 20mm wider. You can try narrower tires, but you've got no guarantee that will alleviate the problem. If the problem is certainly the tires/wheels, the only think you can be sure of is that going back to stock sizes will eliminate the rubbing.

Could the problem be something other than tires+ wheels?

There is ONLY 6000Km on this car so far. What else could be wrong?

How can I be sure by going back to standard wheels+tires the problem will be solved?

Thanks again

I can't diagnose your car via the internet; I can only offer guidance. As I said it is very likely that the problem is your tires rubbing on the liner or fender, but for all I know, some bushings are shot and your axle is rubbing something, or the front anti-sway is loose and the vehicle is rolling too much when cornering.

Did the shop that you took the car to actually confirm it was the tires, or did they just look at the size and say that was the cause? It probably is the cause, but a good shop should be diagnosing the problem rather than just making an educated guess. Keep in mind that it's also in their interest to sell you wheels/tires. Can I assume that you don't have the stock wheels/tires to throw on and see if that clears up the rubbing?

Without diagnosing the problem correctly you cannon "be sure by going back to standard wheels+tires the problem will be solved". I don't mean any offense, but it doesn't sound like you should be trying to diagnose/repair your vehicle on your own - find a good VAG auto shop. I'm sure that someone here in the Western Forum can recommend a decent tech in the Vancouver area; in fact, if you use the search, there are a few threads on this already.

Haha, unless it's the outside of the tire rubbing - then all will be worse.

Thanks for the feedback. Really Appreciate it. Here are some images from my car with this wheels attached to this post.

As I said I took it to Volvo Tires and he thought we should change the tire or wheels + Tiires. He checked under tha car to confirm it was not lowered. THey didn't mention anything about wheel spacers. I will check with them again.

Another thing I noticed, with Audi Magnetic Drive activated I can hear the rubbing more. Does thuis feature lowers the car further? or it just stiffens the susspension system?

Shall I take it to a Audi dealer? I don't know any other certified tech shops in Vancouver for Audi that I can take my car to. If you know any Tech shop who are experts in Audi and can help me with this problem, please let me know.

Thanks
