When is the timing belt due on a 2002/2003 TT 1.8T 225? And how much can it cost?

I was told every 60 000 to be safe, but dont let it go more than 100 000, dont take it to the dealer, i was quoted 1800! my mechanic tole me 550. and he's good. I couldnt find any audi dealership with my service records so i thought i would do my timing belt to be safe. he called his friend at audi and they had all the records. and it was done! so on top of saving 1250, i didnt need it done! how bout them apples!
