Default Need Help Key Fob

First of I want to say hi to everyone. I just bought a 2003 Audi TT Quattro and I'm loving it so much. The previous owner warned me not to even try using the 2nd key fob as it has lost the programming when he had the dealer change the instrument cluster. I tried using the remote function and it wasn't working on this 2nd key so I followed the steps here in the forum on how to program the remote key fob operation and eventually got the remote function working. Now is it true that I can't even put this 2nd key in the ignition as it will immobilize the car. Cause I'm so tempted to just try and see if it indeed does not work before I bring it to the dealer to get it reprogrammed. The first key works fine. Help anyone. thanks.

Dealer should have reprogrammed all key sets when they replaced the instrument cluster. If you have a programmed and working key in the car (pocket, glovebox, boot), then the immobilizer in the un-programmed key is ineffective.

Okay so that got a little confusing just reading your reply. But trying the other key to figure out if the immobilizer will work or not will not do anything to your car. If it is not programed the key will not start the car. In which case you revert to the programed key that works and there you go. It will not effect your vehicle in anyway only the key itself.

By the way, welcome to the forum! I've got the same year TT as you, and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. Post up some pictures of your TT once you have a chance.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies. I end up getting the dealership reprogrammed my 2nd key $60 +tax. When I got to the dealership I tried the 2nd non-programmed key in the ignition and it did work and started the car up except the immobilizer light in the dashpod was flashing.

I'll post some pics of my car when I get the chance. Thanks again.

This is an old thread, but I would recommend to anyone the VAGTACHO OBD II unit. It specifically has key/immobolizer programming function. All you need is one working key. Instructions are a little confusing; however, when the program tells you to "disconnect and reconnect", simply remove current key and replace with next key to program; watch immobilizer light, it should turn off within 5 seconds. repeat. Have 6 keys for my 2003 8N TT: 4 3 button+alarm keys (2 cut, 2 uncut), 2 are valet; programmed 5 from one working key. A decent locksmith can cut blanks.
