I was getting about 18MPG in the city and 24-28MPG on the highway between 140-110 kph.

Get a TTS if you want power and potentially high gas mileage. The guys in the UK are reporting incredible gas mileage with this car due to the 2.0T.

TT-talk > MK2 forum > MPG

TT-talk > MK2 forum > 38.7MPG TTS

I have a 3.2 and i get 550-600km to tank 50% city/hwy
I use ultra 94 or Shell 91 only.
If you aren't heavy on the gas it is actually very good on gas. I fill up once every two weeks

The 2.0 (especially in the TTS) has gobs of power, and if you are at all concerned about fuel use (which we all should be, even if we drive sports cars), the 2.0 is almost as quick as the 6 cyl but with better fuel economy since you can minimize turbo use if you don't need it. Go with the 2.0 it's the sweetest 4 cyl on the planet!
Cheers
