Headlight replacement to XEON

Headlight replacement to XEON
I have an 01 TT 225 and was driving to NB at night and soon realized that the headlights on that car are not very bright. My 06 S4 has XEON lights and i sure could feel the difference driving the TT at night.
Does anyone has any suggestions as retrofit possibilities to XEON lights on an 01 TT ? Nothing fancy, just with more power then the stock headlights.

Re: Headlight replacement to XEON
Replacement headlights are something ridiculous like $1000 each from dealers, so your best bet is to look for used units on various forums. Might be able to find them both at once from a totalled car with a rear or side hit.
It's Xenon, by the way, as in the element.

I was talking to this guy about parts and asked about the headlights - he has two undamaged HID headlights for $250 each. I'd jump on it

Re: Headlight replacement to XEON
The problem is, the original equipment on the 01 TT did NOT include xenon lights. So the one he has are the same i have
I definitely will need to go through a conversion.
I have found this place that actually makes them :
Headlights and Replacement Headlights for Audi with Projector HID (Xenon) and LED Daytime Runing Light (DRL) Options

If you want to simply put an HID system in your existing housing (non-projection) you can do so for about 110 for digital slim ballast 6000K. I have a contact in Toronto, who is also an eBay power seller will charge you around 110-130. Email him and tell him you got his contacts through audiforum, he does lots of dealings here.

Re: Headlight replacement to XEON
Exactly.
All i want is to see better at night. I rarely take the TT out at night but I had too a couple of weeks ago and coming back at night (in the rain mind you) i couldnt see much. My daily commute car is the 06 S4 wich has bi-xenon headlights and my wife uses the TT most of the time (when I am not on the track with it).
She drives bad enought during the day when she can see, i wouldnt want her to try the TT at night when its really dark. (Good thing she doesnt come here on this forum )
I don't want to convert the headlights to the new Audi look (with the xmas lights), just see better.
Ill look into this reference of yours. Thanks.
How much effort is it to do this conversion ? I know it's not just replacing the bulb. Is this a DIY project ?

Re: Headlight replacement to XEON
So this is exactly what you're looking for. I believe the TT takes H11 bulbs, email him mention your car model he'll know what types of bulbs it takes. Get the 6000K temperature bulbs, he will ship them to you the entire thing can't be more than 130 (shipping in) I got a kit from him and converted my fog lights on my Q5 to HID took me about 10 minutes to install. It's plug and play it's very easy 110% DIY project and tons of youtube videos.

Uggghhh, please don't put HIDs in non-HID projectors! For roughly twice as much, you can put OEM HID housings in your car; and, you'd still have the extra pair of non-HID headlights for backups, or to sell.
Some 2001 TTs certainly did have HIDs; and, the guy parting the TT told me that they were HIDs.
