Hardtop vs Convertible- and why?

Re: Hardtop vs Convertible- and why?
I think the Mk1 looks great in coupe or roadster form.
I drove both before I purchased mine last year, and although much better than most convertibles, I found the soft top TT to be to "wobbly".
But, I'm a Webasto sunroof dealer, so I simply installed a power sunroof on my TT, and got the best of both worlds!
Get a coupe, throw a roof in it!

Personally, I can't live without a convertible. Coupe's just aren't the same as the freedom of a top down day. It was 7 degrees here yesterday, January 31st, and my top would not stay up! I'm a previous Miata owner and have grown to the TT Roadster 3.2 Quattro world and would never consider anything different. The AWD and heated seats solve any cold or weather issues. Go for the roadster - you won't regret it!

Re: Hardtop vs Convertible- and why?
Use my 03TT as daily and would not consider convertible for daily driver in Canada.
That said, have owned a 1990 Miata, a 2000 Miata and currently have 2001 Boxster.
I find that you really, really have a desire to own a convertible; or you don't. Sounds to me that you're not totally into the convertible.
I've also found that over the years we drive the topless car fewer and fewer km. Last summer the Boxster did around 1800k.
This year it'll be in the autotrader in April.

We drove our convertible TT from FLorida to cold and snowy Newfoundland last week. No problems at all keeping warm. She was very tight and once warmed up - nice and comfy!

Re: Hardtop vs Convertible- and why?
The other consideration is resale. When you look at a site like Craigslist there are lots of TT Roadsters for sale but very few Coupes. It seems that some people go for the romance of a Roadster, then realize they can't fit anything in it, and it goes up for sale. With a Coupe you at least have vestigial back seat and lots of space to move stuff.

Re: Hardtop vs Convertible- and why?
All other things being equal- engine specs, interior, exterior colour, mileage, mechanical condition, price...
Assume for the moment that there were 2 cars side by side, equal in EVERY way, except that one was a hardtop, and the other was a convertible. Which one would you choose, and why?
Or, if you have already gone through that decision making process, which one DID you choose, and why?
The reason for my question is this; I love a sunroof, and the convertible is the ultimate sunroof! The hartop is not available from Audi with one, but... What about our Canadian winters? I believe the TT has heated seats which are a bonus in the wintertime, but how are the convertible tops for retaining the cars heat as you drive down the highway on your daily winter's comute?
Thanx Gang.

We live in Southampton, Ontario and use the TT 365/year and we now have 115,000 km on it. Heat is no problem. The unlimited headroom is a treat and I highly recommend the roadster.
We just came back from 2 weeks in Florida and packing lightly and tightly we did fine in the luggage department.
I must admit that the coupe is a better looking unit and I suspect somewhat quieter, however, I will never go back to a hard top.
Cheers

Re: Hardtop vs Convertible- and why?
I am biased. I drive a 03 coupe and love every minute. Practical as my daily commuter, and fun to boot. I leave the back seats down all the time, and agree with others - there is plenty of room so long as there is just two of you riding.
I would say coupes are much harder to find. You could find a good roadster to import in a week. Not so trying to find low mileage coupe in good condition - little tougher search. Good luck with your decision - you will love it either way.
