Hey Everybody,

I'm finally completing the RIV process, and need to install DRL's in my TT.

I know everybody uses the guide http://s91109985.onlinehome.us/03225qc/FogLight.pdf

My question however is, how does this guide relate to the use of a typical automotive style relay?

This guide shows the use of a relay marked "a.b.c.d" from radio shack..

Does anybody know how these would cross to the terminals "87, 85,86,30" as I would be using??

I'm fine with automotive electrical, and could figure it out easily enough, but thought that somebody may have already done this and be able to offer advice, or better yet, a guide.

You need to use the Bosch Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) relay not the Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) relay.

Terminals b and c on the Radio Shack relay are the same as 85 and 86 on the Bosch relay and drive the coil that controls the circuit.
Terminals a and d on the Radio Shack relay are the same as 30 and 87a on the Bosch relay and are the switched part that provides power to the fog lights.

Hi Josh
I am embarking on the journey to acquire a 2001 TT, manual, convertible.
In the event I find what I want in the US, I will need to import it into Canada and when it gets here get an RIV inspection.

Do you have any tips from your recent experience, in addition to the DRL one here?

One concern I have is how to drive the car back to Canada, registration and state taxes and all that. Or is it just best to ship it with someone like Hansens?

hey fella, bought a s4 in salt lake city last year came across @ coutts near lethbrige. was all very painless came across on a monday and had a plate on it thursday.

Did you drive it up from Salt Lake.
If so, did you have to get some sort of permit in Salt Lake to do that?

yep, insure from ab for whole trip and get temp tag to use from border to home (make sure the date is from when you arrive at border as only valid for 48hrs) and when i picked car up dealer got me a local temp tag to get me to border which cost me $18.

Importation was very easy!

My only issue was finding a shop that would do my out of province inspection with the window tint on my door glass (illegal in BC). which I flatly refuse to take off

I found one who turned a blind eye to it, and all was well.

I will say one thing though about the TT........If your used to owning and driving japanese or korean reliability, be prepared. Finicky little cars!!

I knew that TT's reliability was spotty at best, but wow...

Most of the things I've done have been maintainance, but some just seem to have gone way sooner than I thought they should have, perfect example, my last car was a 2004 hyundai santa fe.....The wheel bearing on it lasted better part of 300,000KM....

Things I've done to my TT in the last year??

-All wheel bearings
-Brakes (pads and rotors)
-Coolant temp sensor
-Fan Switch
-Cooling fan control module
-Both cooling fans replaced
-MAF
-N75 Valve
-Diverter valve
-Airbag module
-Haldex controller
-Primary and secondary fuel pump/sender
-Struts/springs/shocks/mounts,etc
-Front CV shafts
-Clutch, and all related components, including DM flywheel


Sure most are all mainatainance, but really, why must germans use electroincs that constantly fail??

Never in any of my vehicles have I had to replace a cooling fan......Strange.....

All in all though, I wouldn't trade this car for the world......It just looks to good to get mad about the repair bills!!

Got my DRLs done at Independant Tuning in Scarborough Did a great job and converted my dash pod and temp gauges to metric.
