Can you tow a small trailer with a TT?

Re: Can you tow a small trailer with a TT?
I drove mine 12+ hours from Calgary to gorge with small utility trailer. drove just fine at 80+ mph - car doesn't seem any worse for wear. will do same next summer. only issue I would be wary of is tongue weight. so long as you aren't putting bunch of weight on reach of trailer, or pulling excessive weight shouldn't be a big deal in my mind.

I am really surprised at the 'negative' answers, Most people are on here because they love their vehicles and want to do 'something different' to improve them for their own needs. This site is full of people modifying their cars, but I don't see people saying anything about the many notices in the manual not to modify the exhaust, intake, don't change your own oil or spark plugs (!!!), etc. Just about anything you do to your car goes against what the manual recommends. Yes, towing w a small car is hard on it... so is autocrossing, driving in adverse conditions, driving fast, etc. Go to Europe, they are all small cars, usually smaller engines than US, mostly turbos, and yet, they survive, blocking the roads with their 'caravans'. Curt Manufacturing makes a hitch for the first gen TT quattros, it isn't super heavy duty (class1; 200# hitch weight, 2000# towing), but it gets the job done. Trailer towning is no more a load than hauling a fat passenger and luggage!

car is fully capable of pulling small trailer. I drive mine to the gorge with small utility trailer with my windsurfing gear on the trailer. I still drive it 80+ mph with the trailer, and it's still got enough jam to pull out and pass. Gotta love that little car! BTW mine has 165 k km on it now (of which I put about 60k on) and clutch is original.
