help greatly needed on audi tt 2002!!

my timing belt broke a few months ago. i had 70,000miles on myaudi tt 2002.
now i have to buy a new engine since when thetiming belt broke it scratched the engine inside and there is no way to use it anymore. since my tt was an 180 hp engine, i asked my mechanic would i be able to upgrade to a 225 hp then since i had to change the engine anyway. he said it would be fine.
now the 225hp engine has been installed, but he said that the computer in my car would not recognise the new engine, and he couldnt hack in the computer to change it. what should i do now? should i ask for a full refund? and by the way he took 6 months to do all that work on my car. is it too long? should i go to another shop?
help is greatly needed. thanks guys

Re: help greatly needed on audi tt 2002!!

There's nothing for the computer to 'recognize' on the actual engine, only on the electronics connected to the engine. Installed correctly, any transverse 1.8T will run in any other transverse 1.8T platform. "Installed correctly" may consist of tracking down a couple of parts, but he should know that before he takes on such a job.

I have a 225 TT and am currently running a Golf/Jetta block, and an AEB head from a Passat/A4. 6 months is definitely too long - it took me 2 days (not including finding/shipping parts obviously). You should demand either your car running, or your money back. You paid for a result, not his incompetent service.

By the way, your car will not have any more power with the 225 engine - the power differences found in the 225 are from:

- larger turbo
- larger injectors
- different intake manifold and throttle body
- different ECU map
- different exhaust
- different intercooler setup
