Convertible Top on 2001 TT 225hp Q
Does anyone have any advice to share on the replacements of tops?? The glass window is separating from the top on mine. I ordered a Robbins top from a fellow in L.A. Delivered to my door, duties and taxes inc. it was a bit under $700 CDN. I now need to have the top installed or figure out how to do it myself (lol). I was quoted a price of 2650 plus taxes for the top and install by one of two places here that do tops (same part number/maker that the shop would use, price on top was $1700+tax). Given the other guy isn't presently doing tops because he hurt himself and is in recovery mode the other place now has a monopoly and a considerable waiting list. Anyone looking for a business opportunity, good workloads as this are serves close to 600k people??
Would appreciate any advice folks, although my guess is that the top should be professionally installed I'm in a bit of a bind as the next place down the road is 250km one way. I don't mind driving as I love the TT but hate being pushed into a corner. My experiences with the local dealer isn't great and although they may do the work my bet is that they use the same shop on a contract basis. Any way, if you have a bit of time I read and respond to what's sent my way. I live in Regina so it's likely I can't get there from here! Cheers to all..........Warren

Do it yourself. Not only will you not be at the mercy of other people's schedules, you'll also be able to take the time to do the job properly. I wouldn't take my car to the Regina dealer if they did repairs for free.
If you need an extra hand I could give you some help.

Hey Cheeba,
Thx for the quick response. I certainly like your attitude as it mirrors mine. My problem here is that I have a few issues that I'd sooner not discuss on a forum like this, they're personal (medical). I have survived a number of years past where I should have and although I used to routinely work on my cars my eyesight has tripped me up as has my physical status.
I wish there was a way we could get together and talk. I'm new with this system and don't know if there is a way to go into a private forum. Are you aware of a way? Again, I really appreciate your time and trouble.
Warmest regards,
Warren
