Binding at low speed

I recently purchased a 2002 TT roadster quattro. When backing up with the wheel turned, I hear a binding noise, presumably caused by the pressure of the 4 wheen drive system. There is no problem at higher speeds. Is this normal or do I have a problem on my hands?

I don't think any kind of binding noise would be normal, my TT exhibits no noise from the drivetrain with tight manouvers. Could be u-joints, or the Haldex Unit may need a service or has a problem. Hope this helps.

Hey Guys,

I to have a tt, 2001 Roadster with 31000 miles. It's the 225 hp quattro (Haldex) system which from what I'm told by the Audi dealership is a 9K option and I hope is functional for more than 31000 miles. On sharp turns like out of my driveway in reverse there is a minimal noise (indescribable as yet). This is quickly followed by a very light snapping noise like cracking a knuckle. I didn't notice too much as the driving was a complete blast and I was having far too much fun watching the salesman fill his drawers (he was frightened out of his mind and when we got back to the dealership and started the paperwork he could hardly hold his pen and write. There is absolutely no shake, rattle or other noise while driving. It's as quiet as a mouse.

I am curious to know what the "snapping noise is" and I will find out soon as I have a buddy that is a mechanic (fully licensed and certified but not on Audi's). That said, Rick is one of those guys that can read, understand and 99.99% of the time his advice and workmanship are well beyond the norm. I trust him with everything (even my wife) and in fifteen years I have never been disappointed (and my wife never got pregnant). I want him to manipulate the daytime running lights if possible or set up some other function option for daytime running lights (if anyone has any information on this I pay cash!) at the same time I'll have him check that snapping noise and get back to you. If you haven't heard from me in ten days please rattle my cage OK? I have MS and this had screwed my short-term memory, sorry.

Best regards to all,
Warren
